On May 13, a jury of Mark Wigley, Barry Bergdoll, Michael Rock, Kate Orff, Damon Rich, Brian Loughlin, Mabel O. Wilson, and Bernard Tschumi gathered in the space of our sponsor, the Art Directors Club in New York, to deliberate over the competition entries to Imagining Recovery. An intense discussion developed over the four hours of deliberation, wherein the field was successively narrowed. Finally the jury reached a stalemate with ten entries remaining.
As a result of the openness of the issues raised by the competition, the jury felt it impossible to remove any one of the ten from being recognized as the projects which offered the collective best response to the brief. The jury has chosen to recognize each of these projects as collective competition “winners”.
The jury has selected three projects as outstanding in addressing what they believed to be the central tenet of the competition, the ability to communicate. These three projects will receive the prizes from Apple.
Congratulations to all winners!
Selected Projects
All submissions that received at least one vote by the jury during the deliberation process are listed below and will be presented in the Mobile Laboratory, which opened in Rotterdam on Day 148, June 16.

Juror Comment This is the crux of the project (arrow pointing to planter). A fantastic microsolution to a very real and arguably immediately solvable problem...simultaneous with an opportunity to propogate good design throughout an urban environment--well done.Brian Loughlin

Juror Comment Really fantastic (if diagrammatic) reimagining of highways and the "wasted" space integral to on and off ramps, acceleration and deceleration...speed and its relation to space...and vice versa. It would have benefitted from more argument to allow for a more sophisticated relation between the linear/fast spaces, and the orthogonal/square static/stagnent spaces. Read Martin/Baxi's "MNC" if you haven't already. Brian Loughlin
